Irritatingly Ignorant

One statement spoken during this time of pandemic that I find irritatingly ignorant is the notion that it is the people’s choice whether or not they get infected with COVID-19. That people no longer need to be reminded like children. Like, you ought to know what you’re getting into the moment you step outside your door. Party at your own risk.

HAVE YOU NOT HEARD OF THE TERM ASYMPTOMATIC CARRIER?

That person who’s outside having careless fun might be willingly putting himself in harm’s way, but that person still has to go home to his family sometime, and that person will eventually interact with other people, who may end up getting COVID-19 even if they did NOT choose to.

I’m not even making this up. In Maine, USA, a wedding reception was held last August attended by around 55 people. And from that event, 177 COVID-19 cases were linked to the event, including seven hospitalizations and seven deaths (four in hospitalized persons). The sad part? None of the persons who were hospitalized or died had attended the event.

So please. Before you make some ignorant claim as to how getting infected by COVID-19 is solely by choice, take some time to read– and respect– scientific, medical data and advisories; to listen to advice from competent authorities. And it also goes without saying, that if you should still choose to go outside, you should be responsible enough to take every necessary precaution.

The life of someone close to you depends on it.
